Camouflage Decorated Cookies Tutorial:
Step 1: Outline the cookie…
-
Work on only 3-4 cookies at a time. If you get too far ahead of yourself, the icing will dry and your pattern will be “bumpy” not smooth and flat.
-
Choose colors that coordinate well. I find that a good source of inspiration if you are looking for colors that go well together is baby bedding…no snickering, it works!
-
Outline the cookie in a lighter color and save the intense one for accents.
-
If you are worried about goofing, find something camouflage to look at such as a piece of clothing, scrapbook paper, or a Googled image to refer to until you are comfortable with the technique.
With a little practice, this technique is EASY BREEZY! And super cute!

Camo cookies are fun! I sent some to my brother the last he was deployed. I camo’d some clover shaped cookies and sent a note that said “sometimes luck is a little hard to find”

Very nice! I love the colors of course. I made camo gingerbread boy cookeis last year for my brother in law’s birthday. I didn’t ever think to make girl ones. This has definitely inspired me to give it a try! 🙂

Where can you get the little bottles at and can they be re-used?
chumuklasmom says
I have been searching for the source for your bottles, too. PLEASE share where you get them! I need them soon!

I was obsessed with trying to find those bottles. I did some research and found that Bed Bath and Beyond carries something similar online… I believe the brand is Kuhn Rikon . I believe Crate and Barrel carries them as well. I decided to go to BB&B and didn’t find the brand I was looking for but I did find similar ones made by Betty Crocker and the set was only $9.99. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=17596748
The set contains three small bottles and one large bottle. I brought them home and tested them with my Wilton tips and they fit perfectly.
marian says
Thanks for looking for them; I’ve emailed Callye and she’ll be here with the answer about those bottles soon!
SweetSugarBelle says
You can get the bottle at three differetn places. Karen’s Cookies, Global Sugar Art and Country Kitchen. I like Karen’s overall because it’s a one stop shop and the shipping time is wonderful. she is also very helpful and does her best to carry things cookiers want!
SweetSugarBelle says
@ Shaun, They are reusable
@Lisa M, I actually made them the first time FOR my grandma {in pink} for breast cancer awareness.http://sweetsugarbelle.blogspot.com/2010/10/fight-like-girl.html
I did not use a kopykake for these cookies and I use a #2 tip for this particular project =)
Madeleine says
Another question for you about the bottles…how do you get the icing into the bottles?
Kate says
I love these cookies! What a cool idea! Thanks for the step by step tutorial. I can’t wait to try them!
Lindsay says
Callye,
I was just wondering what you use as a background for the first photo that you took, I always wanted to take a photo like that but never knew what to use as a background!
On another note, your cookies look great!
sweetsugarbelle says
Lindsey,
I use a lightbox, but for an inexpensive easy substitute use two plain white posterboards taped together like a folder 🙂
Lindsay says
Just out of curiosity, what kind do you use?
Thanks again,
Linds
Brenda says
Thanks so much for all the tutorials. Great!!!!
Teresa says
Can you tell me…..what are the bottles with the icing tips? all of the bottles that I see have HUGE holes in the tops!
marian says
Teresa,
I think Callye mentioned earlier on in the comments where she got hers.
morgana says
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Great tutorial.
April says
Awesome!
Can someone tell me if you can use the bottles exclusively? or are they JUST for flooding. I am not in great control of the piping bags. 🙁 If you suggest I NOT use the bottles exclusively can you give me the cons of doing so? Thanks a TON everyone!
noufe says
awww thats so cute
sweetsugarbelle says
April, I’m planning a blog post on it soon! That’s a get in-depth answer. There at lots of pros and cons to both…stay tuned. Hopefully I’ll have something before February…short answer yes. Stay tuned!
