Camouflage Decorated Cookies Tutorial:

Step 1: Outline the cookie…

-
Work on only 3-4 cookies at a time. If you get too far ahead of yourself, the icing will dry and your pattern will be “bumpy” not smooth and flat.
-
Choose colors that coordinate well. I find that a good source of inspiration if you are looking for colors that go well together is baby bedding…no snickering, it works!
-
Outline the cookie in a lighter color and save the intense one for accents.
-
If you are worried about goofing, find something camouflage to look at such as a piece of clothing, scrapbook paper, or a Googled image to refer to until you are comfortable with the technique.
With a little practice, this technique is EASY BREEZY! And super cute!

Wow!!! Love it Marian! so creative and so talented.
This came at a perfect time for me! Thanks so much for posting!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing! I was recently asked to make onesies in pink camo and was going to look at a piece of camo as inspiration but this was an awesome tutorial!
Great tips Callye! Love your tutorial! Hope to see more of them! 😀

callye can you please let us know the tip size you prefer.
thanks so much!
mirian, thank you for this guest post
& a very happy, sweet & exciting 2011!
Linda, a number #2 tip is perfect….and consistency wise the icing should be like molasses or honey.
Pink Camo? I just luv ’em! Fantastic job!!
you made it look so easy! love the post!!!
These are great! I have a son in the Marines and have been wanting to try traditional cammo. Thanks to you both.
Fantastic post!!! I love to see your tricks, these cookies are so beautiful!!! Thankssssssssss
These are so cute; I love the brown 🙂
Love the tuto, Callye!! Congrats on having such a great guest, Marian…
Camo cookies are fun! I sent some to my brother the last he was deployed. I camo’d some clover shaped cookies and sent a note that said “sometimes luck is a little hard to find”
I’ve never seen those bottles before–the fact that you can use tips on them is awesome! Where can I find them?
Great tutorial! So fun to see Callye here! Happy new year to you as well Marian!
These look like so much fun!! Where did you get the squeeze bottles that fit couplers?? This is so much better than using a piping bag!!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Great tutorial Callye amazing as usual.
Happy New Year Sweetopia!
Love this technique!
Gorgeous! And one of my favorite cookie decorators on the site of one of my OTHER favorite cookie decorators? Too much! I posted a link on ediblecrafts.craftgossip.com.
Very nice! I love the colors of course. I made camo gingerbread boy cookeis last year for my brother in law’s birthday. I didn’t ever think to make girl ones. This has definitely inspired me to give it a try! 🙂
Your friend uses the kopy cake too???
I love the squeeze bottles with the tips attached- it looks so much more precise than regular squeeze bottle openings- how did you do these?
Awesome! Love, love the brown!
Thanks for sharing with us! You are both such an inspiration!
Those are outrageous!!!! Love them. Definitely bookmarking this for future reference.
Wow! That looks amazing. I have been wanting to get into decorative frosting . . and this looks like the perfect thing to tuck away and whip out when my fiance graduates from officer candidate school!
This is so cute! I love the idea. Very unique. Thanks for sharing.
This is so kewl!!! I needed this tonight. I need to do a lot of baking this weekend. Thanks for this wonderful idea.
I’m so glad you did this post. Now I can surprise my Dad with manly camoflauge cookies too!
This is cool! =) I love the colors! Thanks for the tutorial. =)
Perfect for a breast cancer event! I love ’em!
Great process! I tried to make camo cookies a few times, but they tuned out not so great. This has been a huge lesson for me! Thanks Callye and Marian!
another great tutorial from another GREAT cookier!! Now I have something in my back pocket to try later. Thanks! 🙂
Where can you get the little bottles at and can they be re-used?
I have been searching for the source for your bottles, too. PLEASE share where you get them! I need them soon!
I was obsessed with trying to find those bottles. I did some research and found that Bed Bath and Beyond carries something similar online… I believe the brand is Kuhn Rikon . I believe Crate and Barrel carries them as well. I decided to go to BB&B and didn’t find the brand I was looking for but I did find similar ones made by Betty Crocker and the set was only $9.99. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=17596748
The set contains three small bottles and one large bottle. I brought them home and tested them with my Wilton tips and they fit perfectly.
Thanks for looking for them; I’ve emailed Callye and she’ll be here with the answer about those bottles soon!
You can get the bottle at three differetn places. Karen’s Cookies, Global Sugar Art and Country Kitchen. I like Karen’s overall because it’s a one stop shop and the shipping time is wonderful. she is also very helpful and does her best to carry things cookiers want!
@ Shaun, They are reusable
@Lisa M, I actually made them the first time FOR my grandma {in pink} for breast cancer awareness.http://sweetsugarbelle.blogspot.com/2010/10/fight-like-girl.html
I did not use a kopykake for these cookies and I use a #2 tip for this particular project =)
Another question for you about the bottles…how do you get the icing into the bottles?
I love these cookies! What a cool idea! Thanks for the step by step tutorial. I can’t wait to try them!
Callye,
I was just wondering what you use as a background for the first photo that you took, I always wanted to take a photo like that but never knew what to use as a background!
On another note, your cookies look great!
Lindsey,
I use a lightbox, but for an inexpensive easy substitute use two plain white posterboards taped together like a folder 🙂
Just out of curiosity, what kind do you use?
Thanks again,
Linds
Thanks so much for all the tutorials. Great!!!!
Can you tell me…..what are the bottles with the icing tips? all of the bottles that I see have HUGE holes in the tops!
Teresa,
I think Callye mentioned earlier on in the comments where she got hers.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Great tutorial.
Awesome!
Can someone tell me if you can use the bottles exclusively? or are they JUST for flooding. I am not in great control of the piping bags. 🙁 If you suggest I NOT use the bottles exclusively can you give me the cons of doing so? Thanks a TON everyone!
awww thats so cute
April, I’m planning a blog post on it soon! That’s a get in-depth answer. There at lots of pros and cons to both…stay tuned. Hopefully I’ll have something before February…short answer yes. Stay tuned!
