It was so satisfying to see my new Eddie Edible Ink Printer printing directly onto my royal iced cookie! In the past I’ve used frosting sheets and adhered them with clear corn syrup (here’s an example), and although the effect is also lovely, the process can be tedious with the sticky corn syrup. It also takes a lot longer to complete a cookie and even if you adhere frosting sheets directly onto wet royal icing, the edges sometimes curl upwards.
Eddie is the only printer which prints edible food coloring “ink” directly onto the cookie. The process of printing these cookies was so smooth, fast and easy! I think I’ve found my new favorite cookie decorating tool! I began with this straightforward square design, using these adorable Valentine Merge Mansion images (more on that in minute), and printed them one by one, but the printer also comes with a carousel, allowing you to print twelve cookies at a time! I wanted to begin with the basics, and will eventually be showing you more videos with other printing options. Today I’ll be sharing the basics of using this printer along with a few reflections. Scroll further down to the Printer Basics section if you’d like to get right to how to use the Eddie Edible Ink Printer and watch a video of the Eddie printer printing these cookies.
The cookie design possibilities are endless… You could print part of a cookie design that is tiny and intricate and hard to pipe, or incorporate different textures into a design, such as printing a fabric pattern onto an apron cookie. You can also print on macarons, white chocolate discs and marshmallows by the way.
I don’t sell my cookies, as I work full time as a high school culinary teacher, and really would not have time to take orders, however, with this printer, it has gotten me thinking about perhaps opening up a small window of orders… Edible ink printed cookies with logos, photos etc. The preparation is simple and straightforward – prepare sugar cookies, ice with white icing, let dry and print! Still does take some preparation and time of course, but with a white base and printed design, the decorating process is much shorter.
Either way, I’m super excited about using this printer for more cookies! I’ll be sharing more design options in the future, for example, printing on unique cookie shapes, as well as printing on the carousel.
The Eddie printer was gifted to me by Primera Technology, Inc. Know that I don’t share products with you that I don’t use or stand behind. Primera kindly offered to have the printer shipped back to them if I tried it out and wasn’t happy with it. They have excellent customer service, even providing an hour of free training with a technician. If you have more questions, they have customer service agents readily available, as well as a Facebook Group and video tutorials.

Printer Basics – How to Use Eddie the Edible Ink Printer
A few things to note about using Eddie the Edible Ink Printer to print on cookies iced with royal icing:
The image you use needs to be at least 900 pixels. Low resolution images won’t print as clearly.
You’ll need to use white icing to print on. I also tinted my white icing even whiter, using white gel coloring.
The icing needs to dry for 24 hours before you print on it.
I went with a 3.5 inch cookie for these designs, but you can make any size of cookie, as long as it does not exceed 4.5 inches by 4.5 inches by 1 inch. You can choose your settings in the printer window of your computer. It’s easy to print each cookie. Place the cookie on center of the printer’s “tongue”, press print on your computer and press “load”. Eddie will print each cookie in about 10 seconds.
And those are the basics!

Merge Mansion Decorated Cookies – Valentine’s Collection
I’ve never been much of a “video game” player, but this past summer I tried a mobile game called Merge Mansion, a merging puzzle game of sorts, and now really enjoy playing. I no longer mind waiting in line anywhere… I just pull out my game and play and time flies by! I find it relaxing to play at the end of the day, and really enjoy the seasonal events they add in, like the Valentine games going on right now.
Most of the images on the cookies here are from their Valentine series. Many thanks to Camila and the Merge Mansion team for kindly sharing the images with me, and sending me some super gifts!
Happy baking, printing, eating or playing!
xo,
Marian
p.s. As usual, please excuse the zillion and one photos! I hope you don’t mind.
