It’s time for another Sweet of the Month!
Before I share all about that, I just wanted to thank Redpath Sugar for sponsoring me to come decorate cookies at Canada’s Baking & Sweets Show this past weekend! It was so much fun being with the Acts of Sweetness team, I got to do what I love most (decorate cookies), and the icing on the cake cookie – I got to meet so many fabulous people there! I’m wishing I had taken photos now! Please leave me a comment here, or send me messages on Facebook, twitter, Pinterest or Instagram so I can find you on line too! (And just for good measure because I seem to like them a lot today… a few more exclamation marks!!!)
If you haven’t heard of the show, here’s the link to their current site, and here are a few pics of things I saw wandering around this weekend:
Really innovative moulds and mould-making tools by Dominic of Make Your Own Molds – there showcasing his finished molds sold at the Icing Inspirations booth.
“Touch faucets” by Delta – completely on my wish list for my kitchen! How awesome for a messy decorator like me!
Bonnie Gordon (left), founder of the Bonnie Gordon College, and one of her talented instructors, Susan Trianos. (She made that tufted cake I showed you a while back).
There was so, so much more at the show! I’m already looking forward to the next one!
Now…
On to the contest!
(Just an FYI, this is my last contest, at least until after Christmas, as it’s a crazy busy around Sweetopia).
Wow, Marian! It’s a pity… I live far away from Canada (I live in Madrid, Spain) so I couldn´t go to the Canada’s Baking&Sweets Show… If I were there, I’d be in first line… You look wonderful decorating!
Thank you for sharing your work and your knowledge with us!
Best regards!
Love those teeny tiny spoons on your necklace Marian! Glad you had fun at the show!
Ohmyyyyyyy that necklace is SO sweet. Too bad I cannot order from Germany (they have different payment options) – this is SO sweet!!!
And also, you looked stunning at the show. On Redpath Sugar’s Facebook page are quite a few photos and they were just wonderful. So awesome to see you “in action”, sweetie.
Hope it was SO MUCH fun!
Much love and happy Monday =)
xoxo, niner
Hi Marion,
It was great having the chance to meet you this weekend, and to see you decorate your cookies live!! You do an awesome job! Thanks for sharing your tips at the show!!
Elizabeth (from Newfoundland )
Hi Marian!!
What a joy it was to meet you in person Yesturday at the Show in Toronto!! I’m still getting teary thinking about it! You are so beautiful and sweet – just like your Cookie Artistry!! The show was fabulous but meeting you definitely took the cake (or cookie!) for the show highlight for me 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise of cookie decorating with us. I know it’s ALOT of work for you. You continue to inspire me and all of us bakers!
Blessings,
Sharon 🙂
I was there on Sunday and saw your demo – there is a shot of you on my blog!! Unfortunately, I did not get an opportunity to actually meet you. 🙁 Funny, the photo of the mold Dominic is holding in that shot is one of the three that I purchased. Can’t wait to use it…and can’t wait to see the wonderful entires in this month’s Sweet of the Month!!
I was at the show on friday and I met you! You were fantastic, so incredibly talented and wonderful! You’re demo was great and your decorating is amazing! ( I LOVED the nutcracker!) Thanks so much for sharing all your cookie wisdom 🙂
Hi Marian,
I can’t seem to submit a sweet? It states that the deadline has passed…what am I doing wrong? I
Hi!
I can’t submit a sweet either. Same thing…the deadline for a submission has passed. Help! 🙂
Thanks everyone for your responses! It really was a fun and wonderful experience, meeting you at the show too!
@ Jackie, @ Reine Birdsell: So weird! Many people have uploaded sweets, but all of a sudden the plugin started not letting anyone, saying the deadline has passed. Working on fixing it! Thanks for the heads up!
Marian, same thing with me. I´ve just tried to summit a sweet and still gives me the error message. I guess we are still on time. Thanks so much for sharing such a wonderful post! I wish I was closer to go meet you in person! Much Success!
hi Marian,
I’m glad you had a great time on the show last weekend. I heard it was a success! I wish… I could have been there.
Thank’s for sharing all your tricks and talents. You amaze me every time.
ML
I’m getting an error message that says “I’m sorry, you cannot upload a photo.” Would love to submit a sweet!
Hi @ Carrie Hinkley: Am working on it! Will send out a facebook message on my page when it’s fixed. Thanks for letting me know.
That necklace is the cutest !! Love it.
Hi Marian,
Watching your demo and getting the opportunity to meet you was the highlight of the show for me! Thank for stopping and talking to my friend and I(and yes we were stalking you! ;). You are so kind and supportive – we all appreciate it! ~Laura~ http://www.facebook.com/2sweeties
@ Carrie Hinkley, @ Reine Birdsell, @ Jackie: All set to go guys! 🙂
Hi @ Isabel: Wish you were closer too! Thanks for your sweet comment.
Thanks, @ Maria!
Yes, @ niner bakes, wish you could have been there too! We would have had lots of fun together I’m sure. 🙂
@ Elizabeth: It was great meeting you, too! Hope you had a great trip home, and please be sure to share pics of your sweets on my facebook page some time; I’d love to see!
@ Sharon: I was so touched by our visit! Thank you so much for your kind words, and I hope you and your daughter keep on enjoying cookie decorating, and say hi to the Mennonites 😉 for me!
Oh, @ Jacquee {I Sugar Coat It!}: I would have loved to meet you! Thanks for sharing a pic on your blog!
My pleasure, @ Rachel, thanks for watching the demo and for your sweet comment!
Wish you could have been there too, @ Maria Theresia. 🙂
@ Laura: Ha ha, it was fun meeting and chatting with you! 🙂
So bummed I missed pure presentation. Got there right at the end…was able to snap some pics of your goodies.

Oh how fun, I saw you walking by but I was too nervous to say hi, and we missed your demo:( But we had a great time!
@ Evelyn:
Too Funny…Just looked at your pictures of the show Evelyn and you caught my family and I talking to Marian! Sorry we were in the way of your photo!
Just found my way here via your incredibly helpful YouTube videos, and wanted to tell you what a lovely, inspiring site you have. I’m having a tricky time with vegan royal icing, hopefully your 5 and 10 second rule will help clear things up!
Can I put you in my back pocket? You know, when I need some creative inspiration! Love it.
Hi @ Evelyn: Thanks for coming by though! 🙂
No way, @ Sue @ Cakeballs, cookies and more, nervous to talk to me?! I was probably more nervous than anyone, presenting in front of a larger group of people than I’m used to! Probably rambled on more than usual, haha. Hope to meet you some day!
@ Paula: That was a great conversation! Can’t wait to try your idea out! Nice meeting you all btw. 🙂
Thanks, @ Libby. Would love to know how it goes with your icing. What ingredients do you use btw?
Ha ha, @ buttercream bakehouse, you’re cute!
Hi Marian, just wanted to ask. I saw on Facebook that there was a glitch with entering sweet of the month and now it is fixed. Does that mean if you submitted a sweet prior to the fix you need to resubmit?
Thanks for your help,
Sarah
Hi @ Sarah: Oh no, you don’t need to. If you got a message saying your photo was successfully submitted, it was. For a little while it wasn’t letting anyone upload.
Thanks for entering!
Hi, Marian!
It was so neat to meet you at the show. I’m still disappointed that I missed most of your presentation, but it was great to have a chance to chat with you and shake your hand.
I also noticed, in retrospect, the cookies you decorated at the presentation were super thick! Do you always make them that way, or was it just for the show? I usually make my sugar cookies only about a 1/4 inch thick… I am curious how they differ in texture when made thicker.
Thanks!
@ marian:Thanks 🙂
Marion, I’m sorry I didn’t get more of a chance to speak to you at the show after your demo. You had such a great turnout!! I was in the front row and also saw you at the door on the way in. Just wanted to let you know I’ve been baking my whole life and decorating and giving cookies away. I donate a lot of cookies for charities and just wanted to let you know how much you have inspired me to continue–you are my cookie making soul mate!
@ Paula:
Oh no worries I was trying to eavesdrop to see if I could pick up any tips LOl but it was way too loud in the hall! I was also curious on how think the cookies were. Sura wanted to take a bite 😉
HI @ Tamara Jones: Nice to meet you too! It does vary on my mood (lol), or how much dough I have (if I need to make more cookies I’ll roll the dough thinner cuz I can get more cookies then), but lately I seem to be making them thicker. I do like having more cookie to balance the sweetness of the royal icing. When you bake them thicker the edges might get a bit crispier in taste/texture, because you may need to bake them longer to get the middle of the cookie completely baked. Hope that helps!
I like that, @ Judy: a cookie making soul mate! I hear you 🙂 I’m so glad we share this passion (it’s nice to know I’m not the only one), and that I could even do a little to help. Thanks for visiting me at the booth! xo
@ Evelyn: Hee hee. It was loud – lots going on! I felt bad for not sharing cookies but they’d been out, many undecorated, for about 4 days by the time the Sunday show came around, and I was concerned they would be dried out. We (Redpath team and I), tasted some on the Sunday at the end to see, and they weren’t actually too bad. (tiny bit dried out).
Thanks for dropping by! 🙂
Hi! I submitted a sweet for Sweet of the Month 6 and it appears that I wasn’t accepted. Do you have a certain criterion for those accepted so I can try again next time?
Thank you! Thanks for your tips. Love your site and have learned a lot.
Hi @ Reine Birdsell: I’m so sorry, all the entries were lovely, but I could only pick 24, otherwise there would be hundreds to vote on. Here is FAQ page on Sweet of the Month, where it goes over how photos are chosen and other questions. https://sweetopia.net/sweet-of-the-week/
I just found it. Thank you!
Awww, i think i might didn’t submit my photo right 🙁 I remember a little glitch happening while submitting though…or simply i just didn’t make the cut…
Perhaps next time & until then i just keep learning 🙂
Love all your tips, tutorials and every single thing about your site! Thank you for sharing 🙂
