I was tickled pink to see these pics on flickr user’s page, SusieHazCakes. Can you imagine?! A pair of finches decided that they would take up inhabitance on Susie’s front door! They must have thought they hit the jackpot! Living in a sheltered, ‘glam’ home. A bird’s version of the lottery. Here’s a snippet of Susie’s story:
Last spring about this time, I had a little wreath on the door and noticed one day that a couple of little House Finches had made a nest in the wreath. I guarded that nest with my life from March 25 until April 22, when the fledglings left the nest. One night there was a terrible storm with strong winds and I could hear the wreath banging on the door. I stood for about an hour with my arm out the door, fighting the wind and holding that wreath tightly against the door.
Thanks for sharing your sweet experience Susie!

They are precious! A very similar thing happened to me at Christmas time. My wreath on my front door became the favorite spot a Carolina Wren. One night I opened the door to let the dog out and the Wren flew into my house! It took a lot of patience (and cleaning) but I was able to carefully get him back outside. What a delight to be that close to nature!

p.s. It’s confirmed… it happens a lot more than I thought! (Just got a few emails saying the same thing had happened to Anaise, Jennie, Elaine and Michaela).
