Happy Monday!
It’s no secret that one of my favorite cookie decorating times of the year is coming soon, and this year’s December Christmas preparations are no exception.
I have a bit of a head start because I’ve been planning for the Mixed Conference, which I’m so excited to be attending this coming November 30th – December 2nd, courtesy of REAL Butter, who is sponsoring me to go. {Thank you!}
I’m happy to be doing some cookie decorating workshops there, and a few the cookies pictured here are a little sneak peek of what’s to come.
The demos will be on decorating cookies with buttercream and royal icing and sharing recipes, tips and tricks.
I also can’t wait to meet or re-connect with the other speakers like Duff Goldman of Ace of Cakes, Heidi Larsen of Foodie Crush, Bree Grossman of Baked Bree, Tami Hardeman of Running with Tweezers, and Denise Woodward & Lenny Ferreira of Chez Us, and I’d really love to meet you. If you’re reading this, I appreciate that you’re here, and I’m pretty sure we have some things in common, even if it’s a love of food or cookie decorating quirks. If you’d like more information on the conference and registration, click here. Hope to meet you soon!
xo,
Marian

Hi @ Lisa: I attached the ribbon with royal icing and let them dry before I hung them. If you hang them for a short time (a few days or so), you can still eat them, but if you keep them up for the season, yes, they will be too stale too eat. Yes, you only bake the cookie, and the icing just goes on and dries. Here is a post on how long they stay fresh: https://sweetopia.net/2012/02/how-long-do-decorated-cookies-stay-fresh-what-is-the-shelf-life-of-decorated-cookies/
No worries about the question at all! You might want to check out my videos on my YouTube page and the tutorial section before you start. All the best! xo
Hi @ Brandie (@ Home Cooking Memories): So am I! It looks like it’s going to be a fun conference. 🙂
Thanks, @ Julianne, for the heads up. Maybe the page needs to load a bit longer? It’s working on this end, but who knows! Will keep an eye on it.
Thanks, @ niner bakes: I always appreciate your sweet comments. xoxo
Thanks so much, @ Kendra (Royal Cookie Designs)!

How are you getting the edges of your cookies so clean and sharp? I have used your recipe, and there still is a certain amount of spreading that takes place while they are baking and I just can’t get the crisp, clean edges like the one pictured.

Hi @ Kathi: Have you tried the tips in this post?

Happy to help with troubleshooting if you need it.

Aww, wish you were going, @ JulieD!

Christmas time is my favorite time of year (partly because of all of the baking). I love the pink trees. They are beautiful. I love the idea of using them on the tree.
marian says
Thanks, @ Lisa Cornely. Have fun baking!
Fred says
Those look so cool! Great job!

Have you ever seen what it looks like when a toddler gets a hold of finger paint and no ones looking? Yeah, that’s me and decorating anything. So I can’t wait to see your demos at Mixed. Just seeing these pics has me excited. It’s totally going to be one of those pinterest images – beautiful image > my attempt. Nailed it 😉

Marian,
I love the pink tree. Where did you find it?
marian says
Thanks, @ Fred.
I love it, @ kita! Can’t wait to meet you! 🙂
@ diana keller: It came in a set of 3 tree cutters from Wilton.
Melissa Wooten says
I was wondering where to find the recipe for the cookie and icing?
marian says
Hi @ Melissa Wooten: All my recipes are in the recipe section found at the top of my blog. These cookies used 2 different icings though. Which ones would you like to make?
Kim Bee says
Marian I am so excited to meet you. I am still in awe of how kind you were to me when I mentioned I wanted to make some of your cookies but had the cookie skills of a deranged octupus (not those exact words). You are such a sweetheart and I look forward to meeting you and learning from you. xx
marian says
Aww, thanks, @ Kim Bee! I can’t believe it’s only a few days away… In fact, I’m starting to pack right after this as I won’t really have time Mon. – Wed. See you soon!! xo
Jacquelyn says
Hi Marian,
Lovely cookies! The pink tree…is that royal icing? or buttercream? TIA!
marian says
Hi @ Jacquelyn:
