Happy Monday!
It’s no secret that one of my favorite cookie decorating times of the year is coming soon, and this year’s December Christmas preparations are no exception.
I have a bit of a head start because I’ve been planning for the Mixed Conference, which I’m so excited to be attending this coming November 30th – December 2nd, courtesy of REAL Butter, who is sponsoring me to go. {Thank you!}
I’m happy to be doing some cookie decorating workshops there, and a few the cookies pictured here are a little sneak peek of what’s to come.
The demos will be on decorating cookies with buttercream and royal icing and sharing recipes, tips and tricks.
I also can’t wait to meet or re-connect with the other speakers like Duff Goldman of Ace of Cakes, Heidi Larsen of Foodie Crush, Bree Grossman of Baked Bree, Tami Hardeman of Running with Tweezers, and Denise Woodward & Lenny Ferreira of Chez Us, and I’d really love to meet you. If you’re reading this, I appreciate that you’re here, and I’m pretty sure we have some things in common, even if it’s a love of food or cookie decorating quirks. If you’d like more information on the conference and registration, click here. Hope to meet you soon!
xo,
Marian

These cookies are as soft as newly fallen snow! It is refreshing to see Christmas designs that are not screaming red and green. Sounds like a great conference, and the attendees are lucky to see you! Enjoy.

Beautiful! I love pastels at Christmas time, so refreshing. I can’t wait to find out how you attached the ribbon! I’ve seen cookies with holes in them for ornaments, but that just takes away from decorating space. This is a beautiful alternative!

Hi @ jomarust: I found the pink tree last Christmas at this store:
http://teatroverde.com/
Likewise, @ Jen @ Savory Simple. It’s going to be so much fun! I even watched Dirty Dancing this weekend again… It’ll be neat to recognize all the same rooms/buildings as the movie.
Me neither, @ Lynda @Me and My Pink Mixer! I’m guessing we certainly have a lot of similar tastes… Pink mixers and baking! Can’t wait to meet you!
Wish you were coming, @ Sue @ Cakeballs, cookies and more!
Thanks, @ Rachel @ Baked by Rachel!

These are so pretty! I’ve just recently found your blog and your very helpful tips and love to see all of your new posts via your Facebook page. I used your marbling technique on some cookies I did for a United Way auction in October and just loved it. I had always wondered how it was done. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom.
kim says
oh how I wish I could attend! Would love to know where you found that little pink star on the Christmas tree?
marian says
Awesome, @ Katie, glad you’re excited – so am I!
Isn’t marbling the best?! @ Amanda, it’s one of my favorite ways to decorate. Glad you had fun and thanks for the sweet comment!
Absolutely, @ kim, I found it at FancyFlours.com

Oh, @ Kimmie, my bestest buddy, I wish you were coming too. We’d have a blast… will just have to take lots of pics of the ‘home’ of the movie (Dirty Dancing) for you. xo
Chris says
Oh my word the whole thing is beautiful; the photography, the cookies, the tree!
Where ever did you find a pink boa Christmas tree?
Will you be doing a tutorial on this soon?
Last question. When will you be posting your gingerbread house for this year tutorial?
Thanks!
Christina
marian says
Hi @ Chris: Thanks! The pink boa Christmas tree is from here: http://teatroverde.com/
I will be posting a tutorial on these early Dec.
I hopefully will be posting my gingerbread house for this year within a few weeks – there isn’t much of a tutorial to go with it though. I used the same template, gingerbread and icing as I put up last year:
https://sweetopia.net/2011/12/video-making-a-gingerbread-house-free-printable-gingerbread-house-template/
But I will be putting links as to how I made the little decorations.
Hope that helps!
Joni says
Hi Marian, as an avid fan of your website, talent, and awesome recipes I have a question: When you bake your cookies thicker than usual (more than 1/4″), do you set your oven temperature higher and/or do you bake the cookies for less time? I’m having trouble with my thicker cookies not keeping their height/shape while baking. I use your dough recipe (which I love), I don’t use any leavening, and I chill the cookies for 1/2 hour before I bake them at 350. But your cookies look so nice and thick and light colored….Any further idea? THANKS!
marian says
Hi @ Joni: I do keep the oven temperature the same but bake them about 2 minutes longer (depends on size…). To check and see if they’re baked/done, turn the oven light on and peek at them – once the center of the cookie no longer has that wet look/sheen, they’re ready to come out. My thicker/larger gingerbread cookies tend to be on the softer side though, not crisp. If you wanted them crisp you would have to bake them longer, and the edges will look browner.
Hope that helps!
Lisa says
Wow! These are gorgeous!! I LOVE to decorate cookies and cakes. I will not be attending…but if you make them ornaments to hang on a tree…guess you do not eat them? How do you attach the ribbon? I might make something like this as gifts for teachers at school. Any ideas on how long they stay fresh? You only bake the cookie right…not the frosting right? I sound dumb I know, just never made a cookie ornament before.
Brandie (@ Home Cooking Memories) says

Julianne says
