I use this swirling or marbling technique as often as I can when decorating cookies; it’s easy, fun and striking!
If you’d like to try making these cookies, you’ll need:
For an in-depth tutorial on decorating cookies with royal icing, click here.
For a better spiderweb tutorial, click on Bridget at Bake at 350’s site! She has a step by step visual how-to!

How to make a swirled spider web cookie:
For a how to on how to marble, or swirl together two or more colors of royal icing, click here for the tutorial.
The only detail the marbling tutorial doesn’t show you, is how to replicate this exact swirled or marbled spider web. Once you’ve piped your base color, add your second color in a spiral direction shown in the picture below:
… and drag your toothpick through the icing in the direction of the arrows:
You could just pipe circles instead of the spiral. You also could omit piping the dot and just start your spiral right in the center of the cookie. Whatever works for you.
Have fun experimenting!
Once the base is dry, pipe any details, such as spiders. I used a number 2 tip to pipe a little round body, and a number 1 tip for the spider legs. Once the body was dry I added the eyes with a number 1 tip.
Easy as that!
Happy decorating and Happy Halloween to you!
xo,
Marian

I bow to the awesome halloween cookies. For real.
I made cupcakes… which never came out of the pan.
My poor deprived child ate pilsbury halloween cookies instead. I was too mad at the cupcakes to eat any of the cookies.
