Hi there!

Hope all of you are having a good start to 2012 and hope this year is filled with lots of sweet things for you.

I’m excited to start my year with some fun cookie themes, like these Parisian ones here. I’ll be doing a travelling series of Around the World decorated cookies, and I just happened to begin my journey with Paris, France.

Oh la la!

I knew when I found these paris design sticky notes by Jillian Phillips, I just had to make a cookie version. Thank you to Jillian and Lilla Rogers for allowing me to use her images! They were so fun to make, and really quite simple once you know a bit about piping royal icing. If you need some guidance, a good place to start is with my Cookie Decorating Tutorial, and two videos on Icing Consistency and How to Pipe Icing Lines.

As part of this post, I thought I’d share with you how I dry my cookies after I’ve decorated them with royal icing. It seems like such a simple thing but if you’re new to cookie decorating there can be lots of questions about how to do it so that your cookies turn out. Something I didn’t mention in the video, is that the cookie shapes were made using templates I made, not cutters. I thought I had an Eiffel Tower cookie cutter and when I went to look in my (eep, hundreds of) cutters, I didn’t actually have one.

Either way, if you’re not making too many of these, cutting the cookies out with a template and paring knife, isn’t difficult, it just takes a bit longer than using a cutter.

You can find an Eiffel Tower cookie cutter here, and for the other shapes you can be creative and use other cutters you already have. Take for example the dachshund, Cindy asked on facebook if it was from a stocking cookie cutter. It wasn’t, but it easily could have been. Thanks for the idea, Cindy!

I’m thinking these would work as romantic Valentine cookies too, don’t you?

    The Eiffel Tower icing lines, you are kidding meeee Marian, this is absolutely insane haha.. SO STRAIGHT, so absolutely perfect!
    Thanks so much for this GREAT POST, it would be awesome if you could make a German design too and one day we both are going to visit that place ha..
    UNFORTUNATELY the German GEMA did not allow me to watch the video. Seriously…disappointing..NOT a happy Friday :)

    I adore those dogs and the cat.

    I live in Belgium.
    We are known for our beer, chocolate, waffles and graphic novels like the Smurfs and Tintin. Must-sees in our capital Brussels are the Atomium, a little statue called ‘manneke pis’ and the Grand-Place with beautiful old houses.

    The cathedral, fashion and diamonds in Antwerp and the bridges and houses in Bruges are also famous.

    Hi there,

    I’m from the Netherlands and I love Amsterdam.
    The nice houses by the water in the centre of Amsterdam, we call them “grachtenpanden” if you google it you’ll know just what I mean.

    And I really would like to visit New York…but that is just something that I have to keep in my mind…Someday I will walk over broadway and I will see the statue of liberty.

    I also like to say that I love your cookies, so keep up the good work ;)

    Hi Marian, Nice cookies, as always. I would love to see a post on how to write on cookies to have nice letters like the word “Paris” that you wrote on the cookie.
    I live in Abu Dhabi in the UAE and if you are inspired by this city or by Dubai you could make a Burj Dubai cookie or a Mosque, or a door with oriental designs on it.
    On cookies cutters. I trace my cookie cutters on paper and put those in a binder. That way I know what I have. To find them I still have to organize that better but so far I have a list and beside it I put the number of the box the cookie cutter are in. I only have 100 cutters so this system works for now.

    I live in Savannah, GA. We are known for peaches, old buildings and cemetaries, the Forsyth fountain, the Talmadge bridge, southern cooking, Paula Deen, and really a lot more too. Those would be cute cookies! If you don’t do them, I might have to think about trying my hand at them! :)

    i love the new york city skyline (where i live)…nothing like the empire state building lighting up the sky in amazing colors (to mark a celebration or remembrance)…& the chrysler building is pretty awesome.

    This is my favorite video so far Marian, well done! I love the music and that it’s sped up, very artisan. The cookies are gorgeous (as usual). I thought the Eiffel Tower was an edible inkout printout at first, that’s how awesome your piping is!

    Thanks for the tip about drying them with the oven light. I’m going to try that today with some red and white cookies. And it will be my first time using a KopyKake!!!

    I’m so impressed with your towers! I don’t think I would ever have the patience to make them! If I were to make cookies to represent Portland Oregon, I guess they would need to be bridges, trees and mountains!

    These cookies are adorable!~ I think they are my favourite out of all of the great cookies you’ve decorated. Very inspiring for a beginner like me~ :)
    I actually JUST finished baking your sugar cookie recipe tonight. They taste fantastic!!!!~ This is the third sugar cookie recipe I’ve tried in the past 2 months and my husband likes this one the best! I have to agree~ I halved the recipe and they turned out wonderfully!

    Greetings from Pretoria in South Africa, Marian. Ah, très mignonne. Too adorable. If you want to visit SA in cookies, I would suggest Table mountain. It’s very easily captured in graphics, the big 5 (animals), the Johannesburg skyline. A ‘koeksister’ (traditional snack = cruller), a donkey cart, a thorn tree (the flat topped kind, very easy to do as a cookie, but stunning), a ‘knopkierie’ (traditional weapon), african pots and huts. (Especially from Lesotho). Too many to choose from.

    I live in Chicago and I would love to get my hands on a Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower) cookie cutter. My husband runs the Willis office and he is always asking me to make cookies that look like the tower he works in.
